Fall is upon us and I’m dreading it. I know I said that on Monday but it’s legit less than a week away and this beauty is not happy about it. Fall means winter is on it’s way into Chicago, no bueno. The only good thing about this weather update is it means my tv shows are coming back and there are new ones to add to the line-up. Since I’ll be snuggling up to stay out of the chilly weather, let me tell you what I’m watching!
Let me just say, I love love love LOVE seeing all these dope shows with predominately black casts. And I know somebody is reading this saying “that’s not rare, what about RHOA or Married to Medicine or LHH?” I rarely, very rarely, ever watch reality television. It’s not my cup of tea and those aren’t the type of people I want to see on television to be honest. To each their own. So I’m super excited to see Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and Empire come back this fall. My DVR is set and I’m making sure my wine bar is fully stocked.
What I’m even more excited about are the new shows I’ve been catching lately. I recently got into Born Again Virgin on TVone and it is the cutest show! It follows Jenna, a new blogger, on her journey as a “born again virgin” after she realizes her body count is too high for her liking. She and her friends share their life/dating woes and there’s plenty of eye candy throughout each episode, including Tank who has a recurring role as their neighbor. I see bits of myself in each of the main characters, Jenna, Kelly, and Tara. You can catch the episodes OnDemand and the second season starts in December!
I’m always down to support black content creators and creatives, so when I heard Black and Sexy TV got a deal to air episodes of their various web series on BET, I was beyond hype! I have a billion reasons excuses as to why I never caught their series online but how dope is it that they’ve been picked up on BET? The first airing was this past Wednesday (9/16/15) of RoomieLoverFriends and I am hooked! I’m ready to see how Tamiko and Jay navigate this awkward roommate situation they’ve created. Other shows to be aired are “Sexless,” a series about a group of girlfriends looking for love by eliminating sex from the equation and “Hello Cupid” about a dark-skinned woman’s online dating experience using her light skinned best friend’s photo to spark potential suitors’ interest.
What’s most exciting to me is the fact that majority of these actors are new to my screen. I love seeing these fresh brown faces entering Hollywood. Don’t get me wrong Morris Chestnut, Sanaa Lathan, Regina Hall, and the gang are classics but we’ve got to be able to switch it up. I can’t wait to see these shows grow and even more shows be added!
