Summer is made for vacations and tanning, and buying new foundations to match your super deep tan of course. We all know I’m a foundation junkie so it doesn’t take much of a color change to convince me to try a new one. I went on a week long tropical vacation and I think I’m the darkest I’ve ever been, not one of the foundations I currently own are a good match. It’s like that sometimes and I’m not complaining! I made my way over to Sephora to check out a few options and matched with the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, I purchased shade Deep 4 – Khartoum, which is the deepest shade in the range.
NARS says this foundation gives a:
Full, natural-looking coverage with unexpectedly weightless, 16-hour wear. Highly pigmented and perfectly balanced, this breakthrough formula builds and blends effortlessly with just one drop—the result of exclusive innovation uniquely designed to deliver long-wearing full coverage, weightlessly. Shake, pump and blend in sections for complete coverage that’s completely natural looking.
One drop for full coverage and 16hr wear? Sounds like a dream foundation and there was a match for summer skintone! My first impression wasn’t so exciting and was actually quite disappointing. I won’t lie, by the end of the first day I wanted a refund. I did my makeup at 9am and when I checked my face at 11pm I noticed the foundation had pooled and separated on my nose. No bueno! Before I panicked and marched into Sephora with my receipt, I decided to give my face a good treatment and rest day then try again.
I switched up primers and honestly didn’t have an issue with it after. I did test this foundation with three different primers. It separated with the BECCA Ever Matte Poreless Perfecting Primer and wore well with the Murad Oil Control Mattifier, as well as the Boots No.7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Base. The Murad and Boots primers have similar lotion-like consistencies which is why I think this foundation worked best with them. I’m satisfied with coverage using 1.5 pumps and I make sure to shake really well so everything is nice and mixed before I pump.
I could definitely get away with just one pump of this but my comfort zone requires just a little bit more. This foundation definitely creates a dewy natural finish, honestly the “your skin but better” kind of look and I really like. Since switching primers and giving my skin a treatment, I get exceptional wear and no separating. It really lives up to its name; long wearing, glowing finish, and light weight. I definitely don’t feel like I’m wearing foundation and that’s pretty amazing.
I considered returning this one but it’s meeting my needs and lives up to it’s claims. What started out as a scary makeup story turned into a great purchase. Keep in mind that sometimes you’ll have to switch up your staple products to make a new item work.
