It took me a week or so to decide that I wanted to do a 2015 favorites post. Initially, I felt like there wasn’t anything that I absolutely loved enough to call it a favorite. Then I really thought about it and came up with a few to share because they are totally worth the purchase (and repurchase).
This bag is definitely part of my favorites. It was sold out at Sephora’s in my area and online so I was really happy when my girl Michelle gifted it to me around the holidays! It’s perfect for travel and can serve as a statement clutch if you’re feeling fiesty. It also holds everything I’m showing in this post with room to spare.
The Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (Shade 180/R530) has really changed how I wear foundation. I just got this in November but I really love the formula, how it wears, and it makes my skin feel so good. It looks and feels like skin!
I started using a sample of the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion during the summer and what I really love about it is that it’s so lightweight but nourishes my combination skin. It didn’t make me more oily but I knew it was working. I’m still using this in the winter months as my day time moisturizer.
2015 was the year of highlighted and chiseled cheeks and I’m not mad at that! I picked two highlighters that I can’t put down. Even when I’m wearing another highlighting powder I pick up Bobbi Brown’s Bronze Glow or MAC’s Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Shaft of Gold just to add a little more umph. I did pick up the other MAC EDS Oh Darling, but Shaft of Gold is really for the brown girls.
Also, MAC’s Film Noir blush has been my everything! It’s slightly too warm to be a true contour but I love adding it beneath my blush for dimension. It’s so rich in color that it makes all my other blushes POP!
The Sephora Collection really has some gems, don’t sleep on it especially not the Cream Lip Stains. Marvelous Mauve is my go-to liquid lip color. It’s matte, not ultra drying, and lasts all day. It’s the perfect nude-ish color for brown girls in my opinion.
NYC Precision Liquid Eyeliner is less than $3 at Target and put my winged liner on fleek every day all day. It’s as black as I want it to be and doesn’t dry down to an ashy black like most liquid eyeliners. The brush is thin and precise enough to get an awesome line every time.
I’ve professed my love for the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara on more than one occasion and that hasn’t changed. My short but full lashes get length with this mascara and I always catch it for a good price at ULTA.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills A23 brush has gotten some rave reviews and I honestly thought it was all hype. I purchased this during a bundle deal the site was having just to give it a shot. The brush is amazeballs for laying down just enough highlight. It places the product right where you need it. It’s as if my fan brush and fluffy brush had a baby, it’s perfect.
My Real Techniques Setting Brush has been outstanding over the last year (so much that I have two). It’s great for laying out highlight or applying powder beneath the eyes to set concealers. It picks up just enough product to get the job done, plus it’s very easy to clean.
And just like that, I’m finished! 2015 was a great beauty year for brown girls everywhere and I’m looking forward to what 2016 has to offer us.
