Even pretty girls carry stress, it’s a part of life that I hate. No matter how big my everyday smile is at any moment my brain is racing with a million thoughts. The best thing I do to relieve my stress is create experiences that allow me to escape mentally and just relax for a few hours at a time.
For me, pampering with a goal of relaxing goes beyond a mani/pedi. I’m so particular about my nails and toes that getting a mani/pedi is like supervising an employee and not the least bit relaxing. To pamper myself I get the deepest massage on the menu. Not only are all of the physical kinks worked out, but the soft music and low lights give me a much needed nap during the session. I wake up feeling refreshed and energized.
When I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I’m most likely to put a stop to everything and pick up a good book. One that’s not related to any task but a book I can leisurely read about a life other than my own. Recently I’ve been into thrillers and although they leave me on the edge of my seat I feel pretty calm and peaceful as I turn each page. The Kindle app has made it so I can have a library full of books in purse and I absolutely love that.
This one takes some planning but, a vacation (mini or extended) is always the answer! I took my first solo vacation a few months ago and I’m ready for the next. It was great to get away and just relax. I’ve heard that staycations are great too, so that’s on my bucket list as well. Exploring a new city is rejuvenating and beyond eye-opening. Being a tourist also makes me appreciate home a little more.
Finally, sometimes I feel too connected or available and it’s beyond necessary to disconnect. No matter what, I take time to turn off all devices; I enjoy the silence and use the time to journal or reflect. This act alone is priceless and can be more helpful than anything else.
